HCSO: Man walks around Lowe's with grenade

HOUSTON – A northwest Harris County home improvement store was evacuated Wednesday after a customer brought a grenade to the store.

Harris County sheriff's deputies said the incident happened at the Lowe's store on F.M. 529 near state Highway 6 about 1:15 p.m.

Detectives said a man walked around the store with a hollowed-out hand grenade. He put the grenade down in the lumber department and then told store employees he left it there, deputies said. He was apparently upset that no one paid attention to him as he walked around with the grenade, officials said.

Investigators said he told employees something along the line of, "Your store security sucks. I've been walking around with a hand grenade and no one noticed."

Employees called for help and deputies evacuated the store.

The store was closed while deputies investigated and determined the grenade was inert.

The man was detained for a short time, but the Harris County District Attorney's Office declined to file charges against him.
