Two men were arrested after investigators said they carjacked a family outside a north Harris County sporting goods store.
Jason Garza, 31, and Jorge Escalante, 27, are charged with Aggravated Robbery with a deadly weapon.
Deputies said two men were inside a Chrysler 300 in the parking lot of the Academy Sports and Outdoor store on the North Freeway and West Road around 11 p.m. Sunday.
According to investigators, Garza and Escalante approached the car, then forced two men and a 2-year-old out of the car. The alleged robbers then drove off in the car, deputies said.
Not long after the car was stolen, officials said a concerned citizen noticed unusual activity at a home on Wildbrook Drive and Silver Oak Drive and called police.
When authorities arrived on scene, investigators could see some men were stripping a Chrysler 300 matching the description of the stolen car.
"They ended up taking one suspect into custody immediately, " said Sgt. David Hilborn with the Harris County Sheriff's Office. "One of the other suspects fled into the neighborhood."
With the help of K-9 officers and a helicopter, the second suspect was located and arrested.
None of the victims were hurt during the incident.
Garza and Escalante, both have a history of run-ins with the law.
According to county records, this is Escalante 's 16th criminal charge in less than six years.
