HCSO: Bomb threat causes evacuation at north Harris County bank

The bank and a nearby shopping center was closed for hours

HARRIS COUNTY – A bank in north Harris County was closed for the entire afternoon after someone called the bank and told them there was a bomb in the building.

It all started just after noon Wednesday at the Amegy Bank on Stuebner Airline Road and Oak Glen. The Harris County Sheriff's Office says the bank was evacuated and Stuebner Airline was shut down after a bomb sniffing dog alerted them to a bank box in the back of the building.

HCSO's bomb squad was called to the scene and a nearby shopping center, including an H-E-B grocery store, was evacuated as a precaution.

Deputies say the bomb squad used an X-ray machine to inspect the box and determine there was nothing suspicious inside.

They cleared the bank and allowed employees back inside just before 5pm.
