HOUSTON - Dozens of firefighters had to be washed down after they came into contact with hazardous chemicals.
Houston firefighters were called out to the S & S Planting Company in the 5600 block of Nunn in southeast Houston shortly before 10 a.m. Monday.
Crews arrived at the warehouse and found several pallets with 600 gallons of chemicals, including sulfuric acid, potassium hydroxide and sodium metabisulfite, had accidentally been knocked down.
Firefighters and hazardous materials crews diluted the chemicals. The crews were then washed down to be certain nothing hazardous got on them.
Three employees of the company who had direct contact with the chemicals were taken to hospitals as a precaution.
