Harris County sheriff hosts NextDoor Night Out

HARRIS COUNTY, Texas – Since the Sun family was murdered, members of the Harris County Sheriff's Office have been out in the Cypress community quite a bit.

They were back Saturday, teaching residents how to keep their community safe as a precursor to the National Night Out held every October in Texas.

Families are getting a chance to meet with Harris County Sheriff Adrian Garcia and learn about social media sites like nextdoor.com.

It's a private social network that allows residentsto stay informed about what's going on in their community.

Garcia says it's those types of tools that could provide key information regarding the Sun family murders.

It has now been six months since the mother, father and their two young sons were found shot in the head in their bedrooms.

"There was a lot of hearsay about what it could have been or what could have happened," community member Carol Lund said. "I try not to pay attention to that."

Investigators are still trying to figure out who's responsible.

"Sometimes folks hear about something that happened and they can relate because they're close by or live close to and they assume everyone has all the information they need," Garcia said. "Never assume that."
