Hail, heavy rains hit Houston

Severe weather alerts issued in Houston

HOUSTON – Hail and heavy rains fell throughout the Houston area Friday as severe weather rolled through.

A spokesman for the city of Houston Office of Emergency Management said grounds saturated by heavy rainfall overnight had dried up. High-water locations were threatened by the late morning and afternoon storms.

Winds knocked down a tree across the railroad tracks near Gus Wortham Park in southeast Houston.

Water quickly covered the road and floated manhole covers at Polk and Lansing. A deputy constable from Precinct Six temporarily closed the intersection.

Houston Bush Airport reported delays up to two hours.
