A man who was a gymnastics coach in Katy is facing sexual assault charges in Colorado.
Prosecutors said Wednesday that 32-year-old Robert Edward Barke is due to be arraigned June 20 in Broomfield County, Colorado. He is charged with sexual assault on a child by a person in a position of trust, sexual assault on a child by a person in a position of trust as a pattern of abuse, sexual assault on a child and unlawful sexual contact concerning the two victims.
Prosecutors allege he sexually assaulted two boys between October 2004 and June 2007 while he was their gymnastics coach at Xtreme Altitude Gymnastics in Broomfield. The boys were ages 12 and 14 when the alleged assaults began.
Barke previously was a gymnastics coach in Grand Junction, Colo. Barke also worked at Champion Gymnastics Academy in Katy but was terminated.
Police in Colorado said Barke was taken into custody at Champion Gymnastics Academy on March 27.
He is free on a $100,000 bond. He has an unlisted phone number and couldn't be reached for comment.
