HOUSTON -

A man was in critical condition Monday morning, after a gunman shot him while he was waiting for his wife in an apartment parking lot.

Police said the victim and his wife parked outside of a complex on Broadway Street near Morley Street.

According to investigators, the victim decided to wait in the car, while his wife walked to their daughter's apartment and picked up their dog.

Officers said his wife heard gunshots, and when she returned to the car, she found her husband with a bullet wound in his chest.

Police said the shooter approached the car and fired three shots through the driver's window. The gunman then fired a fourth shot through the back window on the driver's side of the car.

The victim told police that he knew the suspect. Police believed the shooting may have been a violent response to another shooting in the area that happened a few weeks before.

The gunman managed to flee the scene, and officers were searching for the suspect Monday morning.
