KATY, Texas -

Parents at one Katy  Independent School District school are on alert after a gun was found in a student's backpack.

School officials at McDonald Junior High say a student spotted the handgun in another student's backpack Wednesday afternoon. Administrators confirmed that an unloaded gun was found inside a backpack, and say the student was arrested.

The school's principal sent a letter home with students notifying parents of the incident on campus. School officials say the student that had the gun in their possession never made any threats towards other students, nor did they remove it from the backpack in which it was being carried.

The student's name has not been released.

No other information regarding this incident has been released.
