SANTA FE, Texas - Police in Santa Fe made a gruesome discovery after executing a search warrant Saturday.
Police arrested 39-year-old Brian Anthony Cheek and his wife, 38-year-old Veronica Lynn Springer, on narcotics charges after discovering almost 9 grams of crystal meth, a scale and packaging materials for sales.
During the executing of the warrant, police discovered 20 cats, ranging from kittens to full grown cats, all dead, apparently tortured and killed.
Police say there was evidence of strangulation, blunt force trauma, disemboweling and burning of the animals.
The Galveston County Sheriff's Animal Cruelty investigators picked up the remains of several cats which will be examined by necropsy.
Cheek, who was on federal probation, is charged with first degree manufacture/delivery of controlled substances. He is being held on a $300,000 bond.
Springer is charged with possession of controlled substances. She is being held on $20,000 bond.
Additional felony charges against the couple regarding the animal cruelty and theft are expected after the necropsy.
