WALLER COUNTY, Texas -

A massive grass fire that forced homeowners in Waller County to evacuate has been extinguished.

Investigators say the fire broke out around 1:30 p.m. Sunday, after winds picked up, spreading hot embers from a nearby trash fire.

Seven families were forced to evacuate their homes as the out-of-control fire inched closer.

Eight emergency agencies responded to the massive fire, which burned roughly 30 acres.

The homeowners were allowed to return once the fire was extinguished.
