A Houston mother wants to thank the good Samaritan who saved her and her two young daughters from getting mugged.

It happened at around 11:30 a.m. Monday at the Family Dollar Store at 3415 Orlando Street. Mayeli Espinoza and her two daughters were leaving the store when Mayeli says a woman started grabbing her purse.

"My daughter started screaming, 'Mom, mom, mom!'" Mayeli said.

When she refused to give up her purse, police say the woman started dragging Mayeli to a getaway car where a man was waiting behind the wheel.

"I wanted to save my mom, but I couldn't," said her 5-year-old daughter.

Luckily there was someone nearby who could save them and he came to the rescue.

"Somebody came from inside the store and started yelling, 'Stop, stop!'" Mayeli said.

Police say that good Samaritan whipped out a gun and held it to the suspects until police arrived.

"Thank God," Mayeli said.

Now she can't thank that man enough because she said things could have been a lot worse.

"He heard my girls and he's a superhero to me," Mayeli said.

Mayeli and her daughters did not suffer any major injuries.

The woman, Shamarion Daina Brooks, and her accomplice, Jesse Leroy Grace, both face charges of robbery by threats. They are both in the Harris County Jail on a $20,000 bond.

The duo is set to appear in court on Wednesday.

Houston police are not identifying the good Samaritan since he was a witness to the crime.
