HOUSTON - A 5-year-old girl almost drowned at a birthday party on Monday.
Houston police said the girl and her family were at the party at the Braeburn Valley West Homeowner's Association club house in the 10500 block of Plainfield Street in southwest Houston about 5:45 p.m. Monday.
The girl was in 3 feet of water and drifted toward the 8-foot-deep section and became distressed. One of the two lifeguards on duty immediately went into the water to rescue her, investigators said.
The lifeguards gave the girl CPR before she was rushed to Texas Children's Hospital, police said. She is being treated there in the pediatric intensive care unit.
