Get free food, have fun for free

Head to Carl Lewis Field at the UH main campus Friday night to watch the University of Houston football program's 2013 Spring Game free of charge. Kickoff is at 7 p.m.

Catch Discovery Green's "Green Film Series" with a free screening of "Grow" Friday night. Chipolte will have free tacos and Saint Arnold's and Barefoot Wine will be handing out free samples. Activities start at 7:30 p.m. The movie starts at 8:30 p.m.

Bring your blanket and lawn chairs to a concert the whole family can enjoy Saturday from 4 to 6 p.m. at Marimon Park in the Heights. Award-winning Texas singer-songwriters Brian Kalinec, Matt Harlan and Don Sanders will perform.

It might be your last weekend to catch the bluebonnets. While you're making the drive, head up to the Bluebonnet Festival in Chappell Hill near Brenham. Admission is free both Saturday and Sunday.

Discovery Green is hopping this weekend. Take your kids to the Young Writers Workshop on Saturday at 10:30 a.m. It's sponsored by the Houston Public Library Express.

Then Sunday you can hula from 10:30 to 11:30 a.m. at a free Discovery Hoop Dance class.

Stick around for free Earth Day festivities from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m.

Take your school-aged kids to the downtown Central Library at 500 McKinney St. at 3 p.m. on Saturday to have fun with science experiments.

Scouts and leaders from 16 counties will unite at Reliant Arena, 8400 Kirby Drive, on Saturday at 3 p.m. to share educational activities, games and demonstrate scouting skills.
