Garden Grove post office robbery suspect arrested

HOUSTON – A man appeared in court Monday morning following allegations he robbed a post office in the Garden Oaks area.

The charges said Joe Robert Martinez, 40, entered the U.S. Postal Service office at 3816 N. Shepherd Dr. on Jan. 28 and, using a gun, demanded money from the cash register.

Martinez ordered the clerk to get on her knees before he fled the office with money, according to allegations.

He was arrested Friday.

If convicted, Martinez faces up to 25 years in prison for the robbery in addition to a mandatory minimum of seven years for the firearms charge.
