Game room security guard found shot, killed in gas station parking lot

SOUTH HOUSTON, Texas – South Houston police officers are investigating the fatal shooting of a game room security guard.

Officers responded to a shooting around 11:45 p.m. Saturday in the parking lot across the street from the game room, near the intersection of South Richey and Dumont streets.

"I had seen him gone before they covered him. I couldn't sleep at night," said Melissa Jenny, a nearby resident and friend of the guard. “I see them everyday.”

She said people have to park far along Dumont Street to get to the game room, and the victim's job was to provide security.

“He would protect the store over here, over there, over there. He would walk [patrons] all the way down there," Jenny said.

According to police, there was an altercation between the guard and another person in the game room. They went outside, and the guard was shot.

“Really too close to home -- I mean just blocks away from my house. This is ridiculous," Jenny said.

Nearby business owner Aaron Young said people need to be mindful and work together to stop the violence.

"We work seven days throughout the week here so you never know what's going to happen -- you got to be real careful," Young said. “South Houston is one community.”

South Houston police said there have been no arrests.

"He didn't deserve what happened," Jenny said.

Houston police are assisting with the investigation. The agency was helping at the scene around 1:30 a.m.

Anyone with information is asked to call the Houston Police at 713-944-1910.
