Galveston's Pleasure Pier recognized by USA Today Travel

HOUSTON – The Galveston Island historic Pleasure Pier was named one of the 25 most beautiful piers, promenades and boardwalks, according to USA Today Travel's online edition.

"We were honored to receive this national attention and to be ranked among some of the most famous attractions in the United States," said Mark Kane, vice president of Landry's amusement division. "The Pier is a true beauty and a testament to what once stood in the very same place over 70 years ago, so we are thrilled that the nostalgic atmosphere contributed to the recognition."

In the 1940s, the Pier was the largest of its kind in the country, and operated mostly as a family destination.

The Pier gained the same family-friendly greatness Chicago's Navy Pier, Santa Monica Pier and Coney Island's Luna Park.

The Pier extends over the Gulf of Mexico and includes 16 rides, 11 midway games and a large selection of restaurants and shops.

Galveston native, Tilman Fertitta, is owner and developer  the Galveston Island Historic Pleasure Pier.
