GALVESTON, Texas - A neighborhood in Galveston is stunned after two kids were attacked by a swarm of bees on Thursday.
It happened in the 7000 block of Sycamore.
Officials tell KPRC Local 2 that the two kids were walking by on a sidewalk when the bees came from the back yard and started to attack.
A 13-year-old was stung 35 times and needed medical treatment.
Galveston firefighters responded to the scene. Firefighters had to wear bee suits to protect themselves from also being attacked on their faces and arms.
The firefighters tried to calm the bees done, but soon decided the swarm had to be destroyed because they were too aggressive.
Galveston spokesperson Elizabeth Rogers said the homeowner will not receive a citation because there is no ordinance prohibiting bees from being kept legally in a back yard.
Neighbors said the bees were being kept for their honey. KPRC Local 2 tried to speak with the homeowner, but no one answered the door at the residence.
