GALVESTON, Texas – Students of Crenshaw Elementary and Middle School will have a delayed start Wednesday because of concerns over higher than normal tides.

According to a Facebook post on the Galveston Independent School District page, the school on the Bolivar Peninsula will start at 10 a.m. because of “unpredictable high tides.”

All other GISD schools are running on a normal schedule.

A coastal flood warning has been issued until 4 p.m. for the peninsula. The National Weather Service said Hurricane Michael, which is headed for Florida, is causing swells that will increase tides, wave run-up and dangerous rip currents.
