Galveston County Sheriff deputy hospitalized after crash during chase

Deputy taken to hospital, treated for cut on back of his head, said officials

GALVESTON COUNTY, Texas – A deputy was taken to the hospital after he crashed while chasing burglary suspects.

Around 8 a.m. on Wednesday, Galveston County sheriff's deputies said they received a call about a burglary in the 18300 block of Elkton Road.

Witnesses told dispatchers they were following the suspect's vehicle.

When deputies found the suspects' vehicle, they tried to pull the vehicle over. Instead, deputies said the suspects lead them on a chase.

During the chase, authorities said a deputy crashed on FM 517 near the Lakes of Bay Area subdivision. Deputies said they had to cut the door of the patrol car to get the deputy out of his car.

The deputy was taken to a hospital and was treated for a cut on the back of his head.

Santa Fe police assisted deputies, who were able to catch up to the suspected vehicle and arrest the suspects.
