Jeremiah, 2, and his nephew, Jayden, were hit by a vehicle near Doss Park on July 21.

Reports say the boys were chasing a ball into the street.

Jayden did not survive.

It appears the driver tried to slow down before the crash, but the person behind the wheel did not stop.

Doris Aguilar said the second her youngest brother woke up in the hospital, he immediately asked for Jayden.

“It’s hard, because he's 2-years-old and to tell him Jayden is not here... I didn't have the heart to tell him,” Aguilar said.

It didn’t take long for the community to show how much it cares. A tribute to the young boy now dots the landscape at Doss Park.

Crimestoppers is offering up to a $5,000 reward for information about the driver.

“Nobody has stepped up. There's no new evidence or nothing,” Aguilar said.

It isn’t easy for Doris, the oldest of seven, to stay strong. But when she looks into her youngest brother’s eyes, she knows she has to. She says the person responsible needs to be held accountable.

“If he does turn himself in, it'll bring some peace to some of my family members, but to me personally, no,” Doris said.
