Friendswood police: Fake contractor trying to get into homes, steal

Woman distracts homeowners as man goes into home to steal

FRIENDSWOOD, Texas – Police say a suspicious woman posing as a lighting contractor and landscaper is distracting homeowners while another suspect goes into the home and steals.

According to investigators, the woman knocked on a door in the 500 block of W. Spreading Oaks and claimed she was doing work in the yard behind the home.

The woman asked the homeowner to accompany her into the backyard so she could show him where she would be working. Then, she's accused of using a two-way radio to signal another individual to enter the home.

The homeowner later realized there was jewelry missing from inside.

Police told Local 2 she also approached homeowners on Briar Creek and Dorado drives.

Kris Smith, who lives in the 100 block of Dorado, was at work when the suspicious woman knocked on her door but Smith's housekeeper got a good description.

"She presented herself very well, she evidently said she was a landscaper," Smith said. "She was wearing green slacks, white blouse, nice jewelry. She was a very attractive individual."

The man working with the woman waited in the car but the housekeeper got a look at him, too.

"He was very tall, slender build. He was very attractive, too," said Smith.

Police said at one of the homes the woman identified herself as "Tammy." She was confident and authoritative in her speech and seemed friendly in conversation.

Anyone with information about the two is asked to called the Friendswood Police Department.
