Friends of crash victims speak

HOUSTON – The loved ones of two people killed in a crash at a southwest Houston gas station parking lot talked Wednesday about their loss.

Houston police said Meagen Jones, 27, and Richey Quinton, 24, had just filled up their car at a Shell gas station on Kirby Drive at the Southwest Freeway at 12:20 a.m. Monday when a speeding car slammed into them.

Police said the driver, Theodore Alolphus Hargrove, 33, was high on the drug PCP when he ran a red light.

"There was a blue Impala waiting to leave the parking lot, like he was going to turn right onto the service road. (The suspect) hit the side of the car at a high rate of speed. Two occupants inside the vehicle died on the scene -- a male and female," said Sgt. Sorge with the Houston Police Department.

Friends of the victims said they hope Jones and Quinton did not suffer.

"You still wonder if there was terror before. Even if they didn't feel it, there might have been a moment of panic," friend Cody Bane said.

Jones spent the last seven years as a special education teacher in Corpus Christi. She just moved back to Houston as the dean of admissions at Pope John Paul High School in Katy.

Richey loved playing rugby and worked at Paulie's Restaurant.

Officials said Hargrove will face two counts of intoxication manslaughter. Sources told KPRC Local 2 that the suspect has a previous record including evading arrest, driving with a suspended license and a drug charge.
