Freeport police chief relieved of duty

FREEPORT, Texas – Freeport's police chief has been relieved of duty.

City Manager Jeff Pynes said allegations made by department members against Chief Tyrone Morrow were serious enough to warrant an outside investigation.

The nature of the allegations has not been released.

Morrow is continuing to receive pay and benefits, Pynes said.

Morrow has been the city's chief since February 2010. Before taking on that job, he was the dean of academic studies for the Texas A&M Systems Security Asset/Law Enforcement Training Program for the United Arab Emirates, the police chief in Bryan, Texas, and the director of training for the Criminal Justice Academy in Fairfax County, Va.
