Houston's annual Freedom Over Texas on July 4 has a headliner.

Mayor Annise Parker announced Monday that Jennifer Nettles, formerly of country music duo Sugarland, will be the festival's main act.

"It's always an event that strikes all of the appropriate patriotic notes, but as I said earlier it's a heck of a lot of fun," said the mayor.

Newly-renovated Eleanor Tinsley Park is the venue for the event. There will be a fireworks display after Nettles' performance.

Other draws at this year's Freedom Over Texas event include vintage aircraft flyovers at the Southwest Airlines Sky Stage, the Walmart All-American Kids Zone and an exhibit of military assets sponsored by KBR Liberty Park.
