Four adults dead, four children sent to hospital after head-on accident in Montgomery County

MONTGOMERY COUNTY, Texas – 4 adults are dead and 4 children seriously injured after a head-on crash in Montgomery County Tuesday.

It happened just after 6 p.m. on FM 3038 near Grangerland.

Investigators say the driver of a Toyota Tundra veered into the northeast bound lane, colliding with a Chevy Tahoe.

"I saw him pass one car before he passed and hit the silver Tahoe and from what another witness said to me the guy had been passing people from 336," said Josh Mize, who was driving behind the Tahoe and called 911.

Mize says the crash sent both vehicles into the air. The Tundra caught fire with two adults and a child inside.

"The car seat was wedged in ... (so we) had to break it to get it  free and we were able to get the child out," said Benny Mize.

Investigators believe a husband, wife and three children were inside the Tahoe. Those children were also rescued.

The  four children were taken to Memorial Hermann Hospital.

"It's very sad, this was a preventable crash this did not have to happen," said Texas Department of Public Safety Trooper Erik Burse.

Investigators are still identifying some of the victims and notifying next of kin of those who have been identified.
