Fort Hood soldier from Houston dies

KILLEEN, Texas - A soldier from Houston has died from an apparent gunshot wound in Killeen, Texas.

According to Fort Hood officials, Sgt. Triston James Johnson died from an apparent gunshot wound in Killeen on Aug. 13.

The circumstances surrounding Johnson's death are currently under investigation.

Johnson, 23, entered active duty service in October 2009 as a combat engineer.

Johnson was a highly decorated soldier with several awards including two Army Commendation Medals and a Global War on Terrorism Service Medal.
