Former Houston porn star launches suit against Facebook

HOUSTON – A former porn star from Houston is suing Facebook for $1 billion, claiming the social media giant destroyed her career in the adult film industry.

“Lady Paree” as she is known, has lived in Houston for more than 20 years.

In 2009 she filed a lawsuit against a porn company called Leisure Time Entertainment, claiming the company published false statements that said she was born a man.

Lady Paree ended up winning the case, but years later in this most recent lawsuit, she claims Facebook has continued to allow the company to post the false statements online.

The lawsuit said Lady Paree has been harassed, has received hate mail from members of the general public and former friends, including death threats. It also says she has suffered emotional distress and severe depression, including suicidal thoughts.

Channel 2 Legal Expert Brian Wice says she doesn’t stand much of a chance in court.

“There are very few absolutes when you sue somebody in state court and federal court for any kind of civil wrong,” Wice said. “And that is if you're a porn star with a prior criminal history that reads like a coast-to-coast Amtrak ticket and your claim is that Mark Zuckerberg has ruined your life. By and large there aren’t a lot of judges and jurors who are going to find that claim believable.”

Channel 2 reached out to Lady Paree, who said she did not wish to comment about the lawsuit until the legal proceedings come to an end.
