HOUSTON -

Former First Lady Barbara Bush was released from Methodist Hospital Saturday, according to a spokesperson for the family.

The 88-year-old has been in the hospital since Monday when she was admitted for treatment for pneumonia.

In a statement Mrs. Bush said, "I cannot thank the doctors and nurses at Houston Methodist enough for making sure I got the best treatment and got back to George and our dogs as quickly as possible."

Mrs. Bush spent six days in the hospital.

She and former President George H.W. Bush will celebrate their 69th wedding anniversary on Monday.
