A former Houston police officer who was convicted in the videotaped beating of Chad Holley has been denied a new trial.
Drew Ryser and his lawyers had asked a judge for a new trial based on what they called jury misconduct.
Attorneys for Ryser said the jury foreman researched the case online outside of the courtroom and shared his findings with other jurors.
A jury convicted Ryser of misdemeanor official oppression in the March 2010 beating of then 15-year-old burglary suspect Holley.
Ryser was sentenced to two years probation.
