Floodwaters leave cars stranded in Houston Omni Hotel parking lot

Guests find cars in parking lot after recent storm

HOUSTON – Floodwaters left a big mess for people at Houston's Omni Hotel. Some vehicles were damaged and others destroyed after the nearby Buffalo Bayou overflowed late Friday night, leaving some vehicles in a parking lot completely submerged.

A manager at the hotel told Local 2 about 20 vehicles were affected, but one guest said it appeared to be many more than that.

Jesse Rodriguez said his gray Scion is totaled.

"I was closest, parked in the lowest area, the closest to the bayou, so my car was completely flooded. It popped out the window of my car," said Rodriguez.

Rodriguez said he was at the Omni for a gala event and had his vehicle valet parked. He said fellow attendees started talking about vehicles being flooded, but he didn't learn his had been impacted until Saturday morning.

"They were telling everybody, 'You gotta call the valet company, we have nothing to do with this.' No apology, no, 'Can I get you a room?'" said Rodriguez.

Rodriguez has now filed claims with his insurance carrier and the company that handles the Omni's valet services, Towne Park.

A media representative for the Omni Hotel told Local 2 it was an unusual event and they are doing everything they can to assist the guests who were affected.
