HOUSTON – Firefighters from Eastex and Westfield fire departments battled a house fire on Saturday in northeast Harris County.
The connected homes on West Village near Hammil road caught fire around 5:30 a.m.

Smoke could be seen from over a mile away and the flames were so intense, residents were reportedly using garden hoses to try to douse the flames.
According to one resident, she woke up to popping noises and smelled smoke.
She said she got out of the house as soon as she saw the flames and notified her neighbors.
They all made it out of the burning home safely.
The residence was completely gutted by fire. The cause of the fire is unknown.
