Firefighters battle grass fire at El Franco Lee Park in Pearland

PEARLAND, Texas – Firefighters from at least two agencies battled a grass fire near a brand new subdivision in southeast Harris County near El Franco Lee Park.

Smoke could be seen coming from the woods as firefighters worked feverishly to protect homes in the Lakes at Highland Glen neighborhood near Pear land. Thai Vimolsaeng raced over to the neighborhood right after his sister called him. She was worried sick.

"As soon as I turned right here off of Blackhawk I saw the fire coming up and thought it had to be a pretty good fire. I just wanted to come to make sure the house was okay", Vimolsaeng said.

Construction crews working on homes in the neighborhood got nervous when they saw the smoke and immediately stopped what they were doing. In spite of the bone dry conditions and slight breeze, firefighters were quickly able to get the upper hand.

It's not clear how the fire started. Nobody was hurt.
