HOUSTON - A Cy-Fair firefighter is in the hospital after she was injured during a training exercise.
Cy-Fair Volunteer Firefighters were training at station 9 off of Highway 6 North in Copperfield around 10 p.m Thursday when, investigators said, a firefighter got hit in the head.
"Our thoughts and our prayers are with our member and member's family," said Robert Rasa with the Cy-Fair Volunteer Fire Department. "Our volunteers meet every Thursday and we do training exercises for various things from working with ladders, working with hoses."
The firefighters were practicing on the ladder truck when equipment, a Sheetrock hook, fell from the truck.
Police were called and the firefighter was taken by Life Flight Helicopter to Memorial Hermann Hospital in stable condition.
"Our safety division as well as our investigators and the Harris County Fire Marshal's Office is here helping us with the investigation, to determine what exactly happened and what caused the accident," said Rasa.
The Harris County Fire Marshal's Office is still processing evidence and interviewing witnesses before making a final ruling, but they said it appears to be an accident.
