Fire started at gas station by attempted carjacker

HOUSTON – Emergency crews responded Sunday morning around 1 a.m. to the Valero Gas station on Aldine Mail Route near Fern Meadow where a dangerous fire was growing.

"Thank God nothing happened," employee Niaz Khan said. "Hopefully, this was just material, we can fix
it. Thank God everyone was all right."

Police say a woman who was sitting inside a truck was forced out, then ran inside the station screaming.

As the suspect took off in a Chevy Tahoe, he hit the gas pump which immediately set off a huge fire.

The foam used to put out the fire can still be seen at the gas station which is now closed for business.

It's unclear how long the pumps will be down. An investigation must be made first.
