HOUSTON -

Two homes were badly damaged after a fire began at a house in West Houston early Monday morning.

Houston firefighters arrived at the home on Bellaire Boulevard near Larkwood Drive around 4:45 a.m.

When fire crews arrived, they found a one-story home engulfed in flames.

Officials said a husband and wife from that home were injured in the fire and were transported to an area hospital for treatment. The man was listed in serious condition and the woman was listed in stable condition.

Fire officials said strong winds fueled the fire and firefighters were not able to contain the flames before they spread to a house next door.

Investigators said the house where the blaze began was badly damaged and the roof collapsed.

Investigators with the Houston Arson Bureau are looking into what caused the fire to start.
