HOUSTON -

The Red Cross is helping families forced out of their homes by a fire at a west Houston apartment complex.

According to Houston Fire Department, the fire sparked late Monday night at the Lodge at West Oaks apartments on Richmond Avenue and Caseta Drive. When crews arrived, flames were shooting from the chimney of a three story apartment building. Firefighters managed to knock the fire out before it spread.

The flames only damaged one apartment unit, though a few others around it suffered water damage. The fire displaced eight families. None of them were injured. Arson investigators are still trying to figure out what sparked the fire.
