HOUSTON -

An East Houston family is left wondering what they will do for Christmas after their home was destroyed by fire.

There were five people inside home when the fire broke out just before 6 a.m. Wednesday at the home in the 4600 block of Market.

Houston fire officials said the single-story house was fully engulfed when firefighters arrived. After the flames were put out, family members went inside to see if they could salvage any items.

"I came outside and the house was just blazing fire," said Tiera Charles, a family friend.

One family member brought warm clothes for the toddler to wear. The family said they lost everything from clothes to shoes and Christmas presents.

Fire officials said the fire started in the kitchen area of the home. Arson investigators are working to determine what caused the fire to start.

Red Cross volunteers responded to the home to help assist the family

The home next door also received fire, smoke and water damage. That homeowner said the building served as a barbershop that had been on the street since 1946. That home, deemed a historical landmark, will be rebuilt.
