Final suspect in University of Houston armored car robbery in custody

HOUSTON – The final suspect in a University of Houston armed robbery has turned himself in to federal authorities.

Ronald Dean Richards, 23, turned himself in on Monday and is expected to make an appearance around 10 a.m. Tuesday before U.S. Magistrate Judge Frances Stacy.

Dezmond Lacraig Edwards, Allen Bernard Roundtree and James Van-Gerald Johnson are charged with conspiracy to interfere with commerce by robbery and with interference with commerce by robbery.

The armored vehicle robbery happened just before 8 a.m. on Dec. 6 in front of the University Center. According to witnesses the driver of the vehicle was held up at gunpoint and ordered out of the car.

The armored truck was found in a parking garage on campus and another "vehicle of interest" was located at Planned Parenthood near the university.

According to the university police, no one was injured during the robbery.
