Final day of 2018 Houston Livestock Show and Rodeo

HOUSTON – Sunday marked the final day of the 2018 Houston Livestock Show and Rodeo at NRG Stadium.

Families flocked to see the livestock in the birthing center and to take their children to see all the animals.

It was Omar Akrout’s first time at a rodeo.

Akrout and his family moved from Tunisia after Hurricane Harvey hit Houston. On Sunday, he was finally able to experience the event for himself.

“I cannot miss it,” he said. “It’s the last chance to come, and unfortunately we are missing the rodeo show, but for sure we’ll come back next year.”

It wasn't John Sandrea’s first rodeo, but Sunday was the first time he was able to catch it before it wrapped up for the season.

“For me, it’s not different every year, usually the same thing, but it’s kind of a tradition,” Sandrea said. “It’s kinda a ritual thing you do in Houston. If the rodeo’s in town you at least have to go and check it out.”

Singer Garth Brooks performed on the brand-new stage once more to close out the concert series. Brooks was the opening act on Feb. 27.

For those wanting to catch the Carnival, it closes at midnight and won’t return until the 2019 livestock show and rodeo event.
