FEMA shows up to provide relief to flooded Greenspoint areas

GREENSPOINT, Texas – FEMA representatives were in Houston and toured some of the hardest hit areas Thursday, including apartments in the Greenspoint area.

Church members gathered for prayer Thursday night not inside a church, but inside a gutted apartment on Imperial Valley and Seminar.

“I'm crying. I'm crying every day because no have nothing. No have no furniture. No nothing. It's bad. It's bad,” said Brenda Rodriguez.

Not long ago, water filled Rodriguez's apartment.

“It was scary because I'm was nervous. My family was inside sleeping,” said Rodriguez.

The family was sleeping on a temporary bed that a friend let her borrow.

Rodriguez's neighbors experienced the same.

“We're sleeping on an air mattress, but this happened two days ago, we didn't have no air mattress. We were sleeping on the wet floor,” said Marina Robles.

President Barack Obama issued a disaster declaration on Monday.

On Thursday, FEMA representatives inspected Rodriguez's apartment and told her financial assistance would be coming soon.

It gave her hope, everything would be OK.

“Now the people come to my house and say, 'Brenda, take care. Everything is good now.' I'm happy now for my family, my neighbors, for everybody,” said Rodriguez.
