Federal furloughs affect Texas military

WASHINGTON – Members of the Texas Military Forces are being forced to take unpaid furlough days due to the sequester.

It's all part of the sequestration in Washington, D.C. The Department of Defense announced the mandatory 11-day furloughs for the federal civil service workforce. This will affect both the Air National Guard and the Texas Army Guard, which helps with both state and federal missions.

On Thursday, hundreds, possibly a few thousand technicians across Texas were notified about the mandatory furlough and that they will see their pay reduced by 20 percent.

The furloughs begin in July. Those notified have the right to appeal the decision.
