HARDIN, Texas -

A 67-year-old man shot and killed 35-year-old son Friday after a domestic dispute.

Deputies were called the the home at 723 CR 2061 after reports of the shooting.

According to Liberty County Sheriff's Office, when deputies arrived, Billy Wilkey was standing in the from yard.

Wilkey told deputies that his son, Flint Wilkey, and Flint's wife, who live near Billy's residence, were involved in a verbal argument at their home.

In order to avoid further argument, Flint's wife went to Billy's home, where Flint followed her.

Upon arriving at Billy's home, witnesses say Flint went into Billy's home and began physically assaulting the wife, hitting her and pulling her hair.

Flint attempted to pull his wife back to his truck to make her go home with him, but she struggled to get away from him him while guarding herself from him striking her.

Billy told police he attempted to stop his son from beating the wife when Flint then turned on his father. At that time, Billy fired a shot from him 9 mm handgun, striking his son.

Billy was questioned and gave a statement, but was released. No charges are being filed at this time.
