HOUSTON -

There was a tearful moment for a father Sunday after he received the Silver Star Medal for his son, who was killed in Afghanistan.

Sgt. Wade Wilson was providing security detail for his unit when it was damaged by an I.E.D.

An insurgent posing as a civilian opened fire on the Marines after the explosion.

Sgt. Wilson drew his weapon, left the safety of his armored vehicle and fired back until he was killed, protecting his unit.

The Silver Star Medal is the third-highest military decoration for valor that can be awarded to any person serving in the armed forces.
