One man died during a fight in east Houston Saturday.
According to police, two men got into a fist fight around midnight at a home in the 100 block of North York. Police said one of the men threw a punch and when officers arrived, the victim, identified by a family member as 45-year-old Renaldo Lerma, was lying dead on the sidewalk.
“Once the fight was broken up, the victim was set up and put in a chair and then once of course HFD arrived they determined he already passed,” said Detective W. C. Huff with the Houston Police.
Police arrested the suspect, who has not yet been identified.
It is unclear what led to the fight or exactly what killed Lerma.
“He wasn't covered up when I got here and they wouldn't let me see him. The guy that supposed to have been fighting with him is in that vehicle over there and he's banging his head against the window,” said the victim’s sister, Tina Lerma.
According to the Lerma’s family, the men hang out often. Police confirm the two men had been drinking when the fight broke out but did not say whether drugs were involved.
The Houston Police Homicide Division is investigating.
Lerma leaves behind three daughters including a young baby.
