Father hopes for capture of 15-year-old's killer

HOUSTON – Family members believe someone knows who’s behind the slaying of a young girl. Her father just made it to Houston on Tuesday night, and said his daughter had no enemies and showed nothing but love for those around her.

“Just a loving, caring little teenage girl man,” Greg Cantu said.

Cantu was in Austin on Tuesday morning when he got the call his daughter Victoria was shot and killed Monday morning.

“She was just a very sweet little girl. Fifteen years old, she would have been 16 Feb. 9.” Cantu said. “I was getting ready to get a bigger place to get her up there so we could be a family again and just show her the world.”

Victoria was found in the back of a car in a Whataburger parking lot. The two men she was riding with stopped at the restaurant to try to get help. Police said Victoria was shot several miles away. Her father said the only information he's gotten is the men his daughter was riding with got into some type of argument with another group of men. They tried to drive away, but Cantu said someone opened fire on the car. His daughter was an unintended target, he said.

“They shot at the car and my daughter happened to get hit and she was deceased,” Cantu said.

Police questioned the men who tried to get Victoria help, but have not released any more information. Cantu is hoping someone will come forward with tips that will help police catch his daughter's killer.

“I just want to get these guys thrown in jail. I need justice plain and simple,” he said.

Anyone with information about the crime is asked to call Houston police at 713-773-7000 or Crime Stoppers at 713-222-TIPS.
