Nathan Weitzel admitted to police that he intentionally left his son Isaiah unbuckled and drove into several cars at 75 miles per hour.

Weitzel told Arapahoe County investigators, "the reason he wanted to kill Isaiah was because being a father was a big responsibility and he did not think he was man enough to raise a child."

The crash happened Aug. 21. According to court documents obtained by KUSA, Weitzel put his seat belt on, but told deputies that he didn't put his son in a child seat and didn't restrain him on purpose.

"I was trying to kill my son," Weitzel said.

Weitzel is charged with attempted first-degree murder, child abuse, assault, criminal mischief, possession of a controlled substance and vehicular assault.

"He's in the place that he should be," Isaiah's mom, Nancy Lopez, told KUSA. "He needs to be in jail for a long time."
