Father accused of beating daughter with belt

Fredric Hughes is accused of hitting his daughter with a belt.

HOUSTON – A Houston man was arrested over allegations that he beat his daughter with a belt because she received a "C" conduct mark in school.

According to court documents, a school employee noticed the 7-year-old girl was having difficulty walking. The girl was taken to the school nurse where her injuries were discovered. The school then contacted Child Protective Services.

Investigators said the girl had bruising on her thigh, buttocks, and knee.

Officials said the girl also had several marks and bruising on her lower and mid-back areas.

According to court documents, the girl said her father hit her with a belt "about a hundred times" all over her body on March 19.

The girl told police she was crying and told her father, identified as 30-year-old Fredric Hughes, that she was in pain but he would not stop. The girl said told her father did this because she received a "C" in school.

Court documents showed the girl told investigators her father has previously left these marks on her and her little sister.

Hughes was charged with injury to a child under 15. He is being held in the Harris County jail on $5,000 bond.
