Fans weigh in on Houston Rockets being put up for sale

HOUSTON – With news that the Rockets are up for sale, many fans are reflecting on the job team owner Les Alexander has done in the last 24 years.

"He's been involved in the community and charities, always having the special events here for charity," Greg Nordstrom said.

"I think the owners did pretty good with the team," Dena Edwards said.

As with any sale, there always has to be a buyer or, in this case, maybe even buyers.

On the list of potential buyers are some Houston heavy hitters with pretty deep pockets.

KPRC2 was the first to report Jim 'Mattress Mack' McIngvale said he and a group are planning to buy the team.

"I'm sure there's a lot of people interested. The Rockets are a great franchise and a great city. Great market. I'm sure it'll be a fierce competition for it, but I'd like to throw my name in the hat and see what we can do," McIngvale said.

One Rockets fan is crowdfunding in hopes of raising the estimated $2 billion it will cost to buy the team. On his generosity.com account, Matthew Simon said he is looking to do something he as never done before.

Whoever ends up purchasing the team, one thing's for sure -- Rockets fans are excited about the franchise's future.

"I think they have a great team, especially with Chris Paul coming and Eric Gordon," Sukhraj Sodhi said.

"I think it's better than when he bought the team. He's kept a winning tradition. I hope he sells it to someone who has the same attitude that he does," Nordstrom said.
