HOUSTON – He's known as the "King of Country" music and on Sunday's last night of Rodeo Houston, George Strait proved he's still royalty and can electrify a stadium filled with fans.
The excitement began hours before Strait took the stage. Outside Reliant Stadium, a sea of country music diehards waited in long lines for the sold-out show.
"He stays true to his music, down home country, he's never changed," said one fan. "He's awesome."
Strait souvenirs sold quickly on Sunday. Fans said they were wanting a memory of the man and his music.
"It's his last tour, very excited. I've never seen him before," said another fan. "I love George Strait."
"I love you George, I love you George, I really do," said one fan.
On stage, the music paused a short time for Strait to recognize a current or former member of our military who was wounded during service.
In an emotional tribute, Strait presented the key to a new home.
Sunday was Strait's 21st Rodeo Houston appearance. He played the last concert in the Astrodome and the first in Reliant Stadium.
Strait also set the Houston Livestock Show and Rodeo's all-time attendance record, which now stands at at 80,020.
